Hambledon Vineyard, Hampshire, 1hr 30mins from London Waterloo 

Claiming to be England’s first commercial vineyard, Hambledon was founded in 1952. Located in the South Downs National Park in Hampshire, Hambledon makes only traditional method sparkling wine. This is one of the bigger and more corporate vineyards listed in this guide, all very slick, on-point branding, with wines you might spot at Waitrose or Berry Bros. 

Recommended itinerary:

  • 09:00 am, Train from London Waterloo to Petersfield Station
  • 10:15 am, 10:05 am Petersfield station to Hambledon (20 mins)
  • 11:00 am, Wine Tour and Tasting (1hr 30 mins), book here.

  • 04:00 pm, Train back to London Waterloo

Three tips: 

  • Get a Network Railcard to get a discount on train fare. You’ll make your money back in four trips over the course of the year.
  • If you don’t fancy a walk through the vineyard, swap the Wine Tour and Tasting with a sit-down Guided Tasting Flight, which is 1hr long.
  • Hambledon also does platters you can order during your tasting, in case you’re in the mood for nibbles before your meal.
